RCCG builds hospital, renovates chapel at Kirikiri Prison

    The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Worldwide has dedicated Kirikiri Maximum Reference Hospital and a renovated Liberty Chapel for the inmates of Kirikiri Maximum Prison in Lagos. The church also held a thanksgiving service at the Liberty Chapel in the prison recently. The two properties were dedicated by Pastor Joseph Obayemi, national overseer of RCCG, who represented the general overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye. Speaking at the biannual holy visitation service, Obayemi enjoined the inmates to thank God in all circumstances, remarking that nothing was impossible with Jesus Christ. Obayemi, who is also a member of the governing council of RCCG, anchored his message on Psalm 95: 1-7. He told the inmates to be hopeful and steadfast, expressing the conviction that they would regain their freedom someday. Many of the inmates heeded the altar call and he prayed for them. EFCC arrests Bishop for allegedly operating Ponzi scheme in Benin   Bishop Giniko Obi has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Benin City, Edo State, for allegedly defrauding thousands of people of various sums of money running into millions of naira. The suspect allegedly collected the money from his victims in the guise of helping them to ‘fight poverty. Obi, founder of Beloved Gideon Foundation, based in Agbor, Delta State, with outreaches in Bayelsa, Onitsha, Lagos, Port Harcourt, Abuja, and Benin City, however, denied any involvement in fraud claiming that he was only “doing the will of God by trying to help people fight poverty.” According to a statement by the acting EFCC spokesman, Tony Orilade, in Abuja, Obi said it was his desire and God’s will to see people prosper that led him into operating what appears to be a Ponzi scheme.   President of Gospel Baptist Conference of Nigeria Archbishop Magnus Atilade is dead. Atilade, who is also the chairman of Christian Association of Nigeria(CAN) South-West region, died in the early hours of Thursday Jan. 10th at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) at the age of 76. Mourning his demise, President Buhari acknowledged Archbishop Atilade’s dedication and commitment to the service of humanity, the President affirms that the cleric will be fondly remembered for his landmark contributions to the evolution of traditional medicine and for spirited advocacy for practitioners to be legally recognized in the country.

44-year-old cleric defiled male teenager in Lagos

An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Thursday ordered that a 44-year-old cleric, Taiwo Opaleke, charged with raping a male teenager, should be kept at the Kirikiri prisons. The Magistrate, Mrs B.O. Osunsanmi, who remanded the cleric, said that the court could not take his plea as it needed advice of the state’s director of public prosecutions. She adjourned the case until Feb. 6 for mention. It was reported that Opaleke, who resides at Shomolu, Lagos, was charged on a count of defiling a 15-year-old. According to the prosecutor, ASP Ezekiel Ayorinde, the accused committed the offence on Dec. 14 at his residence.
